2014 events:

  • Saturday, March 29, 2014 - "Seeking Wildness."  Bring your journal or sketchbook and join me for a saunter, beginning at the Thoreau Farm Birthplace, 341 Virginia Road, Concord, Massachusetts, from 9 a.m. until noon.  Sponsored by Freedom's Way National Heritage Area and the Concord Cultural Council.  Rescheduled from November 2013.  Snow date:  Saturday, April 5, 2014.

  • Thursday, May 15, 2014 - "Henry David Thoreau's Westward Journey:  A Transcendental Travelogue."  At Acton Memorial Library, 486 Main Street, Acton, Massachusetts, beginning at 7 p.m.

  • Tuesday, May 20, 2014 - " Henry David Thoreau and His Relevance for Today."  At Marshy Point Nature Center, 7130 Marshy Point Road, Baltimore, Maryland, beginning at 7 p.m.

  • Tuesday, May 27, 2014 - Henry David Thoreau and His Relevance for Today." At private faculty meeting at Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner, Mass., 11 a.m.

  • June 2-5, 2014 - "Nature Writing and Introversion."  A session held during Sharp Eyes VIII: The Practice of Natural History in Science, Literature, and Art, also known as the John Burroughs Nature Writing Conference & Seminar series, at State University of New York College at Oneonta, N.Y.  Conference registration is required for admission.

  • Wednesday, June 18, 2014 - "Henry David Thoreau's Days in Minnesota: A Transcendental Travelogue."  At Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, Minn., beginning at 7 p.m.

  • Thursday, June 19, 2014 - "Henry David Thoreau in Minnesota: A Transcendental Travelogue."  At La Crescent Public Library, 321 Main Street, La Crescent, Minn., beginning at 7 p.m.

  • July 10-14, 2014 - The Thoreau Society Annual Gathering, Concord, Massachusetts.  I'll be leading two walks and giving one presentation. Conference registration is required for admission. More details to follow.

  • Tuesday, August 12, 2014 - Henry David Thoreau's Westward Journey: A Transcendental Travelogue."  At the Ephrata Public Library, 550 South Reading Road, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, beginning at 6 p.m. 

  • Saturday, September 13, 2014 - Join me for a Sunrise Meditative Walk at Walden Pond, 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., Walden Pond State Reservation, 915 Walden Street, Concord, Mass.  Part of the Walden to Wachusett weekend organized by Freedom's Way National Heritage Area.

  • Saturday, September 20, 2014 - "Henry David Thoreau and His Relevance for Today." At First Congregational Parish, Unitarian, Town Common, MA Route 32, Petersham, Massachusetts, beginning at 4 p.m.

  • Thursday, October 9, 2014 - "Thoreau's Relevance for Our Time." At Mount Wachusett Community College, North Cafeteria, Gardner, Mass., 12:30 p.m.  Free and open to the public.

  • Monday, November 3, 2014 - Discussing Westward I Go Free with book discussion group, Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center, 2910 New Holland Road, Reading, Pennsylvania, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
