  • Saturday, January 30, 2016. Launch of Henry David Thoreau for Kids: His Life and Ideas, With 21 Activities. Sponsored by The Thoreau Society, at Thoreau Farm, 341 Virginia Road, Concord, Massachusetts, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Snow date: Sunday, January 31, 2016.

  • Saturday, March 5, 2016 - Book signing for Henry David Thoreau for Kids at Aaron's Books, 35 East Main Street, Lititz, Pennsylvania. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Snow date, Sunday, March 6.

  • Wednesday. April 6, 2016 - Talk in conjunction with "Community Read: Grandma Gatewood's Walk" (biography by Ben Montgomery) and Appalachian Trail-themed discussions, Joseph T. Simpson Public Library, 16 North Walnut Street, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, 7 p.m. This event is free but pre-registration is required.

  • Saturday, April 16, 2016 - Participating in the Theater of the Seventh Sister's Spoken Word Performance, at the Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster, 328 West Orange Street, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15.

  • Thursday, April 21, 2016 - Conducting children's activity from Henry David Thoreau for Kids at Athol Public Library, 568 Main Street, Athol, Massachusetts, 1 p.m.

  • Saturday, April 23, 2016 - Participating in children's literature festival at Fitchburg Public Library, 610 Main Street, Fitchburg, Massachusetts. With kids' activity at 11 a.m., and author panel at 1:30 p.m.

  • Monday, April 25, 2016 - Conducting children's activity from Henry David Thoreau for Kids at Beaver Brook Association, 117 Ridge Road, Hollis, New Hampshire, beginning at 10 a.m. Meet at Maple Hill Farm.

  • Saturday, June 11, 2016 - Participating in the Chesapeake Children's Book Festival, held at the Talbot County Free Library, 100 West Dover Street, Easton, Maryland, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Tuesday, June 14, 2016 - "Write Outside Our Door: A Nature Writing Walk," led from the Alice Baker Library, 820 East Main Street, Eagle, Wisconsin, beginning at 2 p.m.

  • Thursday, June 16, 2016 - "A Transcendental Travelogue: Henry David Thoreauís Journey Along the Fox River," talk and discussion with slides, at Creek Bend Nature Center, LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean Street, Saint Charles, Illinois, at 7 p.m.

  • Saturday, June 18, 2016 - "Henry David Thoreau Plaque Rededication in Milwaukee," at Colectivo Coffee, Fifth Ward Foundry, 170 South First Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from 2-4 p.m. Joining a group of poets and musicians for this special ceremony. See flyer.

  • Wednesday, June 29, 2016 - "Write Outside Our Door: A Nature Writing Walk," led from the West Chester Public Library, 415 North Church Street, West Chester, Pennsylvania, at 2 p.m. Teens and adults are welcomed. Bring your own journals, sketchbooks, pens, and pencils.

  • Saturday, July 9, 2016 - Leading the Memorial Walk at Walden Pond State Reservation, 915 Walden Street, Concord, Massachusetts, beginning at 7 a.m.  Meet at the Thoreau house replica. Part of The Thoreau Society Annual Gathering. Registration is required for participation.

  • Saturday, July 9, 2016 - "Thoreau's Habits and Insights as an Introvert." At the Masonic Temple, Concord Center, Concord, Massachusetts, at 1 p.m. Part of The Thoreau Society Annual Gathering. Registration is required for attendance.

  • Sunday, July 10, 2016 - Leading an Inspirational Morning Saunter at Thoreau Farm, 10 a.m. to noon. Part of The Thoreau Society Annual Gathering. Registration is required for attendance.

  • Tuesday, July 12, 2016 - Open House at Thoreau Farm: Birthplace of Henry David Thoreau, 341 Virginia Road, Concord, Massachusetts, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I'll be guiding house tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

  • Wednesday, August 3, 2016 - "Write Outside Our Door: Connecting with Nearby Nature," led at Cordorus State Park, Dubs Church Road, Hanover, Pennsylvania, beginning at 6 p.m. Sponsored by the Guthrie Memorial Library of Hanover. Teens and adults are welcomed. Meet at the LaHo Trailhead parking area along PA 216. Bring your own journals, sketchbooks, pens, and pencils.

  • Sunday, September 18, 2016 - "Write Outside Our Door" activity. Meet at First Congregational Parish Unitarian, Town Common, Petersham, Massachusetts. More details to come. Bring your own journals, sketchbooks, pens, and pencils.

  • Tuesday, September 27, 2016 - "Write Outside Our Door: Connecting with Nearby Nature" activity. Sponsored by the Annville Free Library, 216 East Main Street, Annville, Pennsylvania. We will meet at the library at 6:30 p.m. and walk to Quittie Creek Nature Park. Bring your own journals, sketchbooks, pens, and pencils.

  • Tuesday, October 11, 2016 - "Henry David Thoreau: From Concord to Philadelphia, and to Us Today." At Easttown Library & Information Center, 720 First Avenue, Berwyn, Pennsylvania, beginning at 7 p.m.

  • Sunday, December 4, 2016 - "Family Trees: A Celebration of Children's Literature: Author & Illustrator Day." At Concord Museum, 200 Lexington Road, Concord, Massachusetts, from 1-4 p.m. A decorator chose Henry David Thoreau for Kids as the theme for a holiday wreath that will hang on the Walden house replica in the front yard of the museum. The trees and wreath display will last all of December. This afternoon is the opening event featuring all of the authors and illustrators represented by the book themes. What an honor to be part of this annual exhibit!

  • ONGOING: My four-week online course through We Are Wildness:  Reconnecting with the Wild through Writing. Start and complete it at your leisure.

2017 events:

  • May 30-June 8, 2017 - Follow Thoreau's Journey West with me! I'll host a 9-day tour of the Midwest, beginning and ending near Chicago, and circling around to include the Twin Cities and Mackinac Island.
